Creative Campaigning

Creative campaigning... some ideas

1. Have a clear objective.

2. Have a way to measure your success

3. If it is a long-term campaign, think about what makes it sustainable. One objective for this must be to build a group of people who are committed to activity on this issue. That means that they feel a part of a welcoming group ...included, consulted, involved, the activities seem worthwhile and meaningful to them, even fun and creative etc. What you don't want is for them to feel bored, guilt-tripped, pressured ignored... how many times have you been to a meeting and felt like this?

4. A book which we would strongly recommend is 'Banners and Giants/Dragons: the complete guide to Creative Campaigning' by Dan Jones, published by Amnesty International at £12.99. (ISBN 873328-59-1)

Order it from a local independent bookshop if you have one; failing that, it is available from amazon.co.uk.

It is a practical workbook showing you how to campaign effectively, whatever your resources. Full of simple, low-cost and spectacular campaigning techniques, it is illustrated with foolproof instructions and pictures.

It shows you how to make things like colourful banners, masks and giant heads, murals, postcards, giant walking puppets and even tortured jelly babies!
