Street Theatre Core FormatsSome ideas that can be adapted for different campaigns: Trials... you just need a judge's wig. Pirates... multinationals stealing the wealth of developing nations. Robin Hood... symbol of the common people's justice, taking back from the rich and powerful what they have stolen from the poor. Coffins and black-clad, shawl-over-head mourners: for what could be lost, what may happen e.g. if you don't eat organic, for people who are terminally sick, for Aids sufferers needing cheap drugs which the multinational pharmaceutical pirates have stolen their right to in order to patent them to make profits. Axes for what could be chopped. Bars for things/people that are imprisoned. The prisoner can carry them in each hand and put them in front of their face. Burdens... people carrying/hauling others... poor nations roped to or carrying World Trade Organisation or rich bankers, or weighed down by a heavy sack with a label on such as interest repayment on debt. Shrinking resources - tear up paper e.g. Polar Bear/Inuit stands on a large sheet of white paper which people come and tear strips off; money passed along a line gets strips torn off by hawkers, middlemen etc, so producer only gets a little bit! There are more details and ideas in other sections of the StreetActs website. |
